Levi’s + Opening Ceremony

Carol Lim and Humberto Leon continue to expand their vast collaborations for their global retail store, Opening Ceremony.  This time, Opening Ceremony has partnered up with the deep rooted American heritage brand, Levi’s, to create a co-branded line of men’s and women’s products that will hit stores next month.  The capsule range will be sold at Opening Ceremony stores,, the Levi’s flagship in San Francisco and a group of exclusive wholesale accounts globally.

Both companies have been involved in a multitude of collaborations.  Levi’s has partnered with Robert Geller, Shepard Fairey and Damien Hirst.  Opening Ceremony has collaborated with Robert Clergerie, Pendleton and Chlo?« Sevigny, to name a few.

???Over the last few years, Opening Ceremony has consistently created and celebrated the freshest and most exciting stories in fashion,??? said Joshua Katz, head of collaborations, partnerships and creative concepts at Levi??™s. ???Our collaboration was really built around a shared desire to celebrate our history, not just by revising it, but rather by reinterpreting it in new and interesting ways.???

The collaboration is planned as an ongoing, multiseason project, said Katz.

The spring Levi??™s + Opening Ceremony collection is focused on corduroy. It includes unisex pants and shorts in a fine-wale fabrication, a corduroy shirt and jean jackets in corduroy and denim styles. The jackets are available in men??™s and women??™s fits. Each corduroy style comes in eight colors: fuchsia, teal, lavender, beige, curry, olive, navy or white.

The pants will retail for $148; the shorts for $106; jackets for $178, and the shirt for $128.

The collection will launch during New York Fashion Week at Opening Ceremony stores in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo, as well as the boutique set to bow in the Ace Hotel in New York next month. The Levi??™s store in New York??™s Union Square will devote its first floor to Opening Ceremony product for several weeks beginning Feb. 19. (Source:  WWD)

Jeans In The UK: This Is howies® Does It

There is a very good chance that if you’re in the U.S., you haven’t heard of howies®.  A quaint brand concept, they sell Warm Jeans — perfect for the winter season, anywhere.  Check out howies’ Warm Marys (women’s) and Warm 49ers (men’s).  It’s a socially aware business that pledges 1% of their turnover to environmental and social projects.  Dare I say the company reminds me a bit of a cross between Abercrombie & Fitch, IKEA (for their product names) and Sierra Trading Post, with a splash of beatnik poetry all around!  I do love their ingenious use of backpocket stitching.

Not to be forgotten, howies® also sells apparel for the kiddies.  Long Johns, anybody?  The only hurdle you may find (besides duty taxes) is that the howies® shops are only in the U.K.  However, they ship outside the European Union via their Web store

Denim News: Colcci – Gisele is Back, Alessandra Steps In

Last summer, I wrote about a series of Brazilian denim labels, which included Colcci.  Gisele is still under contract as the brand ambassador, and it seems her popularity hasn’t wained a bit.  Even after she marries an American football player.  Even after she has a baby with him.  What are they calling the couple now?  Br??ndchen?  Brady-B??ndch?  Check out Colcci’s current Funktified Web site for the latest on this global brand.  Meanwhile, here’s the buzz…

Distinctively English, Bespoken Clothiers


In billiards, the term “English” means to hit the cue ball to the right or left side of the center so that the cue ball doesn’t follow the aimed ball into the pocket.

Well, much like an “English”, the label Bespoken isn’t quite the straight shooter themselves.  A band of brothers brought together by their admiration of bespoke craftsmanship, adds their own twist to old world English tailoring.

Bespoken, which is sold at Harrods and Bloomingdale??™s, was started by brothers Paulo and Carlos Gon?§alves and the brothers Liam, James and Sam Fayed (whose family owns Harrods, Turnbull & Asser and the H??tel Ritz in Paris).  The shirts are actually manufactured in the Turnbull & Asser factory in Gloucestershire, England.  Obviously, Bespoken is focused on the highest quality in design, materials and production with a modern take on traditionally tailored menswear.  With the pedigree of these young men, we wouldn’t expect any less.

So, for the tastefully discerning man who dreams of a Saville Row blazer, but can’t quite swing the price tag, Bespoken may just be a nice alternative.  Denim jeans always look sexier worn with a perfectly fitted shirt and blazer.
