Denim Don’t Treat Me Bad!

SUPERFINE 'Liberty' Skinny Blue Resin Jeans, available at Forward.

SUPERFINE 'Liberty' Skinny Blue Resin Jeans, available at Forward.

Ever since I saw the collection of treated, resin-baked jeans from brands like 7 for All Mankind, I was instantly whipped.  I knew I had to have ’em.  I knew that if I couldn’ t have ’em, then nobody can!  Ahem, well, I didn’t really get THAT obsessed, but boy did those leather-looking, rocker chic jeans stop me in my tracks.  Would I feel like a supermodel in ’em, or would I be more Joan Jett?  What about the guys’ version?  Even denim designers like Mik Serfontaine have been spotted sporting his own pair of well-loved coated Serfontaine Denim slimleg jeans.  He looks so rocker in ’em!

Hayden-Harnett Angelika Grey Leather Vest.

Hayden-Harnett Angelika Grey Leather Vest.

It also blew my mind to discover that the treated jeans didn’t come in just black.  Can you imagine walking into some night spot and heads turn.  “Are those leather pants?  Is it leatherette?  Is she with the band?”  In the other part of my fantasy, after partying the night away in my SUPERFINE Blue Resin Jeans, I head into a diner to grab some grub at 3 a.m.  As I slide effortlessly onto the banquette, I only worry about which Blue Plate Special to order, and whether I’d get mustard on my Hayden-Harnett Grey Angelika leather vest.  I’d spend the next hour working on a new song called, “Who Needs Boys When Denim Don’t Treat Me Bad?”  I need to work on a shorter title, I guess.

So here they are, a collection of coated, baked, treated jeans that I’ve stumbled upon recently.  How would you rock it?  Check it!

From Access Hollywood: Penelope Cruz’s Black Tie Jeans

Celebrities get away with just about everything, and sometimes, they should!   So clever that actress Penelope Cruz wore a tuxedo jacket over her rather casual jeans, to the screening of Vicky Cristina Barcelona in London (Source: Access Hollywood).  It’s sort of Black Tie, but without the black tie.  She looks casual-plus, in this seemingly effortless ensemble.  I’d like to rock this look!  Somehow, she manages to avoid the Miami Vice look, even though her sleeves are scrunched up.  Talk to me later about the Jonas Brothers – oy!

Come on Jessica!

I’m not going to bash Jessica Simpson’s character as I’m sure she is a sweet gal, who happens to have a gorgeous face and great hair, but come on girl!  What is up with the mom jeans?  Yes, you’ve packed on some pounds, but there are far better ways to show off voluptuousness without killing the little shred of fashion credibility that you may have.
My friends, this is a shining example of how to get your man to develop wandering eyes and perhaps lead to other wandering body parts. The motto of every dignified woman should be “Just Say No to Mom Jeans!”  If you don’t have it to flaunt, then don’t flaunt it at all.  These kinds of jeans are best left for the starving models.

Heel Boy Heel!

Ladies, when you’re out on the prowl dressed in your sexiest jeans, what’s the denim jean’s wing-man? Shoes, of course. Let’s talk about the perfect way to lure in that cute boy you’ve been eyeing with some captivating sexy footwear. Before you know it, you’ll have to beg the poor pup to “heel boy heel!”

Here are a few “IT” boots and shoes that are currently hot! In addition, more sizzling trends for the upcoming season as inspiration and lower priced alternatives to get your juices flowing!

Ice-Ice Baby! Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga had the mind blowing rubber and latex boot this F/W. These futuristically architectural boots are something that I would imagine wearing around in Superman’s ‘Fortress of Solitude’. Illuminating and avant garde, with these on you will be a force to reckon with! One trend to look out for this coming spring and summer are lucite heels. Check out Stella McCartney’s gorgeous lucite-heeled sandals from her S/S 09 collection (inquire at Stella McCartney stores for more info and price).  I would go as minimal in dress as possible to showcase both the shoes and your oh-so-fine figure and derriere.  Get a jump start on the jumpsuit trend and try these shoes with Thayer’s denim romper ($169,

But for most of us, who’s kryptonite is the paralyzing recession, let’s take a look at more modest takes on the two styles. Nothing can compare to the Balenciagas so we won’t even try, but there are plenty of fashionable alternatives.  If you want to invest in a pair of pricey shoes, make sure that they are either really special or classics that you can keep forever. Otherwise, ride the trend wave and shop around for the best inspired looks at bargain basement prices.

Rachel Bilson, Hayden Christensen and Chace Crawford for ‘Teens for Jeans’

In an effort to encourage the youth of today to get involved and Do Something, Chace Crawford (CW’s Gossip Girl) is pitching that teens donate their used jeans to charity by dropping them off at any A?©ropostale store. The charity, Teens for Jeans, will make sure the jeans get to homeless youth. What’s the catch? None, but you get 25% off your purchase of jeans at A?©ropostale.

Other stars have teamed up with Teens for Jeans, including actors Rachel Bilson (TV’s The O.C.) and Hayden Christensen (Jumper, 2008).  Check out their video here:

For more information on this charity, go to Teens for Jeans.

Chloë Sevigny at Diesel Planet

NICE GOING: Chlo?« Sevigny joined Renzo Rosso for the opening of his largest Diesel Planet store to date on Tuesday night, as men’s fashion week in Milan wound down. “I welled up while watching [President Barack Obama‘s] inauguration from my hotel room,” said Sevigny. The actress and style maven said she’s heading to Paris next to showcase her new men’s-unisex line. “It’s skinny, chain-y, stud-y,” she enthused. Sevigny’s tour of Europe doesn’t stop in France and moves on to Wales to film “Mr. Nice,” in which she will play the wife of famed smuggler Howard Marks. “I am really nervous about my English accent,” she confessed.

Diesel Shifts Into High Gear With Only the Brave

by Melissa Drier

From WWD ISSUE 01/23/2008

BERLIN ??” Diesel is taking a bold-fisted approach with its first solo men??™s fragrance, Only the Brave.

Always one to break the mold, the new Diesel scent is bottled in a smoky, gray flacon in the shape of a clenched fist, branded by a silver Diesel silver ring on the third and fourth fingers. It was inspired by Diesel founder Renzo Rosso??™s own hand, particularly the RR finger tattoos, which he gave himself for his 50th birthday.

Only the Brave, which was produced by Diesel??™s fragrance licensee, L??™Or?©al, is set to roll out in almost 30,000 doors globally, starting in Germany at the end of March, France in mid-April and the rest of the world in May. In addition, a customized edition of the eau de toilette, designed by three ???street??? artists, is slated for September.

The range comprises 30-, 50- and 75-ml. eau de toilette sprays, priced at 33, 49 and 67 euros, respectively (or $42.50, $63 and $86.50 at current exchange rates), plus 100-ml. aftershave lotion and balm (51 and 38.90 euros or $65.75 and $50) 200-ml. shower gel (25.50 euros or $33) and 150-ml. deo spray (25.70 euros or $33).

The scent??™s name is also directly linked to Rosso through his holding company, which is also called Only the Brave. It encompasses Diesel and Rosso??™s other interests ??” the Maison Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf brands. In addition, his Staff International makes and distributes ready-to-wear ranges for Sophia Kokosalaki, Dsquared, Vivienne Westwood and, as of next season, Marc Jacobs Men.

???L??™Or?©al asked if they could have something important for the new fragrance. And they got my hand and my name,??? Rosso said, laughing. Only the Brave is also the name of his charitable foundation, which is currently developing what he would only call ???an incredible new project. We??™ll say more in a year??™s time. But the name of the fragrance could help build awareness of the group and, more importantly, the foundation.???

L??™Or?©al, on the other hand, is banking on Only the Brave to again place Diesel among the world??™s top five scents. L??™Or?©al executives declined to specify the sales target, but industry sources estimate that a men??™s fragrance would have to generate $70 million at retail to land in the top five.

When L??™Or?©al launched its first men??™s and women??™s Diesel fragrances, Fuel for Life, in 2007, the goal was to be among the top 10. ???And we achieved the top five and six positions??? reported Ladan Lari, international managing director of Diesel fragrances. ???Now we??™re aiming for the top five. It??™s not easy to have two perfumes in that position,??? she said, noting only one other L??™Or?©al brand, Armani, has pulled it off. ???But Only the Brave is a very different universe than Fuel for Life. It??™s more artsy, more masculine. And we want them to coexist at retail.???

The oriental, woody, and leathery juice, developed by International Flavors & Fragrance??™s Ali?©nor Massenet, Olivier Polge & Pierre Wargnye, bravely plays with opposites. It starts with a masculine and fashion-related note of leather. ???But because Diesel is a joyful brand, it??™s lightened up with lemon,??? Lari said, and broken with dry woody cedar notes and amber.

L??™Or?©al and the Diesel creative team are still cooking up a screen ad for Only the Brave, but the campaign for print, billboard and point-of-sale features a triple-pack of black-and-white portraits. British photographer Platon, who has photographed any number of famous persons of conviction, including President Barack Obama, was invited to turn his lens on model, actor and former Madonna flame Tony Ward, as well as two other young men of determination and will. None are identified in the ads.

A new woman??™s Diesel perfume is also in the pipeline. ???It won??™t be Only the Brave, but it will be emblematic of Diesel??™s values and passions,??? Lari said.
